Brow and Forehead Lift – Weston / Fort Lauderdale

Brow position has a very influential effect on maintaining a youthful appearance. The eyes are a focal point of the face, and invite the most attention. They are also one of the first areas of the face to exhibit aging. As people age, gravity causes the forehead and brows to descend, which can lead to excess skin that can hang over the eyes. Patients with low and descended brows often report that they always look tired or unhappy.

Fortunately, surgery can be done to elevate the brows and forehead. It is sometimes performed in conjunction with a facelift or neck lift to improve overall appearance. In some patients, a blepharoplasty is also performed to achieve optimal improvement.

A brow lift can help to smooth out wrinkles, crow’s feet, and skin in the temporal region. There are a few different ways that Dr. Greene can elevate the brows or forehead. In some patients, the brows can be elevated during a blepharoplasty through the same incision. This is reserved for patients who have a less severe degree of descended brows. Other patients benefit from a temporal brow lift that lifts the outside of the brows and the temporal forehead. These incisions are placed inside the hairline. And finally, some patients with significant sagging of the brows and forehead require a more extensive procedure that involves lifting the entire forehead through well-concealed incisions at or behind the hairline.

Dr. Greene has extensive experience in brow and forehead rejuvenation. During your complimentary consultation, he will discuss all treatment options to help you restore a more youthful appearance.

Anesthesia & Surgery Length

Most surgeries are performed in an operating room in an outpatient surgery center or hospital. Intravenous sedation and local anesthesia are used in most cases for patient comfort. The duration of the procedure is typically between two and three hours, depending on the extent of surgery.

The surgical technique performed depends on patient desires and the degree of forehead and brow descent. If the brow elevation is done through a blepharoplasty incision (during eyelid surgery), sutures are used to ‘fix’ the brows in an elevated position on the forehead. A meticulous closure is performed with very small sutures. Dr. Greene utilizes special suturing techniques to minimize scar appearance.

If a temporal brow lift is to be performed, the incisions are placed in the hairline above the temporal brow. The forehead skin is carefully lifted, and the brow and temporal forehead is fixed at a higher level. For an extended brow or forehead lift, the incision is either placed at the hairline or within the hair. With this technique, muscles of the forehead are treated to decrease wrinkle formation. The forehead is then elevated to an appropriate level so that the brow position appears natural.

Most patients can return to work within seven to ten days, although mild bruising and swelling may persist slightly longer. This is usually easily camouflaged with makeup. Discomfort is typically easily controlled with medication. While final scar maturation takes longer, the scar should look well healed within two to three weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a forehead lift?

A forehead lift, also known as a browlift, is a surgical procedure designed to restore a more youthful, rejuvenated look to the upper one-third of the face.

What can a forehead lift achieve?

A forehead lift addresses the upper one-third of the face but does not improve the lower face. For this reason, it is often done in conjunction with a facelift.

Where does the forehead lift procedure take place?

A brow or forehead lift may take place in an outpatient surgical center or hospital.

What type of anesthesia is used?

Local anesthesia combined with sedation is most often used for a brow lift, but general anesthesia may also be used in some cases.

Are there scars after a forehead lift?

If the brow elevation is done through a blepharoplasty incision, there is no additional scar. Incisions in the hairline will result in scars though they tend to be minimal and well-hidden.

How much time will I need to take off from work after a forehead lift?

Most patients can return to work within seven to ten days.

When can I run or lift weights after my forehead lift?

More strenuous activities like running and weight lifting should be avoided or limited for several weeks. In addition, prolonged heat and sun exposure should be avoided for several months.

When are the stitches removed after a forehead lift?

Stitches are typically removed within one to two weeks.

Is financing available for a forehead lift?

Financing is available for a brow or forehead lift. Speak with Dr. Greene’s office for more information.
