Fort Lauderdale / Boca Raton Skin Lesion and Mole Removal Specialist

There are literally hundreds of types of skin lesions that can be found on the face. The majority of these are benign and slow growing. While some can impede function depending on their location, most patients desire removal for cosmetic reasons. Fortunately, lesion removal can be performed in the office to improve cosmetic appearance with minimal downtime.

Good Candidates

  • Noticeable skin lesions on the face
  • Moles, skin tags
  • No history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring formation

Anesthesia & Surgery Length

Almost all lesions can be removed in the office under local anesthesia (no sedation). However, if a lesion is very large, it may necessitate removal in the operating room. Surgery in the office is typically completed within an hour.

Technique/Procedure

Skin lesions are carefully removed after the skin has been anesthetized. In all cases, the excised lesion is sent to a pathologist for microscopic analysis. A meticulous closure is performed with very small sutures. Dr. Greene utilizes special suturing techniques to minimize scar appearance.

Recovery

Most patients can immediately return to work following this short procedure. Sutures are removed in five to seven days, depending on their location. Discomfort is minimal and easily controlled with Tylenol. While final scar maturation can take longer, the scar should look well healed within two to three weeks. For most patients, we recommend the use of a medial-grade scar cream. All patients should also apply sunscreen while outdoors to optimize the appearance of the scar.

A small mole in the eyebrow can be removed with excellent scar camouflage. This pre-operative photo shows that the scar is well concealed even after three weeks.
